American roulette rules

The table and the payouts are the same as in European roulette: 35 to 1 for a straight up, 17 to 1 for a split, down to 1 to 1 for red or black. The difference is on the wheel: a second green pocket, the double zero.

With 38 pockets and payouts calculated for 36, two pockets out of 38 work for the house. The edge climbs to 5.26% on every bet, almost twice the European 2.70%.

The top line, the worst bet on the table

Only the American table offers the top line (or basket): 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3 together, paying 6 to 1. Five numbers would need a 6.2 to 1 payout to match the other bets, so this one carries a 7.89% house edge. You can place it on the corner where the zeros meet the 1.

A different wheel order

The American wheel does not follow the European order: 0 and 00 sit opposite each other, and consecutive pairs of numbers face each other across the wheel. That is why the European call bets do not exist on this table.
