How to use the roulette calculator

  1. Choose the wheel: European, French (with La Partage) or American.
  2. Pick a chip and tap the table: the centre of a number is a straight up, an edge a split, a corner a corner bet, as in the game.
  3. Every chip updates the results: each number of the wheel, what it pays you, and the summary above.
  4. Right-click or long-press a bet to take it off, or change the wheel to compare.

What the results mean

Chance to come out ahead is the share of numbers that give you back more than your total bet. Numbers that pay something include those that only give back part of it. Average loss per spin is what the combination costs you, spin after spin.

Take 10 on red and 5 on zero, on a European wheel. The 18 red numbers give back 20 for 15 bet (+5), zero gives back 180 (+165), and the 18 black numbers lose the 15. You come out ahead on 19 numbers out of 37, 51.4% of spins, more often than with red alone. The average loss stays 0.41 per spin, 2.70% of the 15.

Why every combination costs the same

On a single-zero wheel, every bet is paid as if the zero did not exist: a straight up pays 35 to 1 when the true odds are 36 to 1, a dozen 2 to 1 when they are 25 to 12. Each chip loses 2.70% on average wherever it sits, so any combination of chips loses 2.70% too. Covering more numbers wins more often and pays less, never better.

Two exceptions change the figure. With La Partage, even-money bets give back half on zero and cost 1.35%. On the American wheel, the top line (0, 00, 1, 2, 3) pays 6 to 1 for 5 numbers and costs 7.89%, against 5.26% for every other bet.

Can a combination of bets beat the house edge?

No. Each chip carries the same edge wherever it is placed, so a combination carries it too: 2.70% on a European wheel, whatever you cover.

What is the best bet in roulette?

An even-money bet (red, black, even, odd, 1-18, 19-36) on a French wheel with La Partage: 1.35%. Everywhere else on a single-zero wheel it is 2.70%.

Does the calculator spin the wheel?

No. It does not draw anything: it settles your bets on every possible number, which gives exact figures instead of a sample.
