How to read the chart
Find your hand: a pair in the Pairs table, a hand with an Ace counted as 11 in Soft totals, anything else in Hard totals.
Find the dealer’s face-up card along the top.
Play the letter where the row and column meet. If the chart says double but you already have three cards, follow the note: hit on D, stand on Ds.
The rules worth remembering
Always split Aces and 8s. Never split 10s or 5s.
Double 11 against everything except an Ace, and 10 against 2 to 9.
Stand on 12 against 4, 5 and 6, and on 13 to 16 against 2 to 6.
Hit 12 to 16 against 7 or higher: the dealer is likely to make a hand.
Stand on soft 19 and above; hit soft 17 and below unless the chart says double.
Never take insurance.

When the table rules change
This chart is built for the most common online rules. At a table where the dealer hits soft 17, three cells change: double 11 against an Ace, double soft 18 against a 2 and double soft 19 against a 6. Where late surrender is offered, surrender hard 16 against 9, 10 and Ace, and hard 15 against a 10.

Why hit 16 against a 7?
Against a 7 the dealer ends on 17 or more most of the time, so standing on 16 usually loses. Hitting busts often too, but loses less over many hands.
Why never take insurance?
It pays 2 to 1 on a card that is a ten less than a third of the time. On average it costs about 7% of what you stake on it.
Is the chart the same for every number of decks?
Almost. This one is for 4 to 8 decks with the dealer standing on soft 17. Single and double deck games change a few cells.
